Against the vibrant backdrop of early summer, the 2026 Annual Meeting of Chinese Gastroenterologists Worldwide and the 23rd Beijing International Digestive Disease Forum was held in Beijing from June 12 to 14. Jointly organized by the World Association of Chinese Doctors, Beijing Friendship Hospital, Capital Medical University, and other institutions, the conference brought together digestive endoscopy experts, clinicians, and industry professionals from across China. Under the theme “Innovation, Integration, and Smart Digestive Healthcare,” participants explored the latest advances in the field and discussed the high-quality development of digestive disease diagnosis and treatment.

With the wider adoption of early gastrointestinal cancer screening and continued advances in minimally invasive intervention, clinical teams are placing greater demands on the efficiency, safety, and convenience of endoscopy systems. Reusable endoscopes continue to present challenges in reprocessing turnaround, workflow management, and cross-contamination risk. These challenges are particularly pronounced in high-throughput examinations, emergency care, and multidisciplinary procedures, where immediate device availability and seamless workflow coordination are critical.
 

 
Against this background, the clinical value of single-use endoscopy is becoming increasingly evident. At the exhibition, the EndoFresh® system attracted considerable attention for its “one patient, one scope” design. Each sterile endoscope is ready for immediate use and disposed of after the procedure, helping reduce the risk of cross-contamination while eliminating complex reprocessing workflows. Its imaging quality and maneuverability also support demanding clinical applications, helping address practical needs in primary care, emergency and critical care, fast-track clinical pathways, and complex combined procedures.
 
 
Live Surgery Highlight
Endoscopic–Laparoscopic Collaboration Expands Multidisciplinary Minimally Invasive Care
 
With a strong focus on clinical innovation, the conference featured a series of advanced live surgical demonstrations. During the live surgery session at 1:00 p.m. on June 13, Dr. Zhao Yu, Associate Chief Physician and PhD in the Department of Gastroenterology at Beijing Friendship Hospital, Capital Medical University, performed a technically demanding combined endoscopic–laparoscopic partial duodenectomy.
 
 
Case Overview
The patient’s lesion was located in the duodenum, a deep and anatomically challenging area surrounded by complex vasculature and adjacent organs. Conventional open surgical resection could have involved greater surgical trauma, a longer recovery period, and a higher risk of postoperative complications. Following a multidisciplinary consultation, the clinical team elected to use an endoscopy-led combined minimally invasive approach.
 
Intraoperative Collaboration
After laparoscopic mobilization and dissection of the surrounding tissues, an EndoFresh® single-use electronic endoscope was introduced transorally and advanced accurately into the duodenum. Working in real time with the laparoscopic view, the endoscope enabled precise identification of the lesion margins. As the single-use endoscope was sterile and ready for immediate use, the endoscopic and laparoscopic teams were able to transition seamlessly, helping reduce equipment preparation time and unnecessary waiting while the patient was under anesthesia.
 
 
Technical Performance
The EndoFresh® high-definition imaging system provided clear visualization of fine mucosal structures. Its 3.8 mm large working channel and flexible angulation of up to 210° supported precise intraluminal dissection and hemostasis. The entire procedure progressed smoothly within a well-coordinated surgical workflow.
 
During the post-procedure discussion, Dr. Zhao spoke positively about the stable performance of the EndoFresh® single-use endoscope and its application potential in combined endoscopic–laparoscopic procedures.
